Javed Jabbar is the son of the (Late) Zain Mahal Khursheed and the (Late) Ahmed Abdul Jabbar who served as a senior official of the Government of Pakistan. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations from the University of Karachi. He has achieved distinctions in a number of diverse fields including voluntary development work, public service and regional conflict resolution.
He has extensive association with the mass media for over 30 years as a writer, film-maker, radio and TV broadcaster, advertising practitioner, parliamentarian (1985-91) and Federal Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting and Science & Technology in the Government of Pakistan, 1988-90. He is Founding Chairman of the South Asian Media Assoication and also served as Federal Minister for Petroleum & Natural Resources in the caretaker government from November 1996 to February 1997. He is Secretary-General of the new political party, the Millat Party, Founded in August, 1998
He is married to Shabnam Jabbar and the have a daughter, the film-maker Mehreen Jabbar and a son, the young writer and law student Kamal K. Jabbar.
