Structure of Industrial Relations in Pakistan is written to bring the subject fully upto date and is designed to meet the need for an authoratative, authentic and comprehensive text within socioeconomic and political context of Pakistan. It provides a frame work of notable variables of consciousness, notions and concepts for indepth study and analysis of the industrial relations problems taking into account new technology and human resources management, the author discusses the central topics such as collective bargaining, conciliation, trade unionism, industrial conflict, industrial jurisprudence and workers participation in management a detached and objective manner.
In the early part of the book he has provided in an objective way the brief survey description and analysis of the trade unionism in the political and social perspective. His careful analysis of the development of trade unionism and industrial relations will enable the reader to understand the climate of industrial relations and trade unionism of Pakistan as at present and also in the future.
Badiuddin A Khan was born in 1917 and educated at the famous Muslim University, Aligarh. Having served for all his working life in the Ministry of Labour in a variety of important positions, he finally retired as Principal, NILAT (National Institute of Labour Administration Training) Karachi, in the conception, planning and development whereof he had played a very important and active part. He was also deeply involved and made positive contribution in the formulation of labour policies that were announced from time to time in Pakistan.
Mr. Khan has travelled widely in connection with his professional work and has written a number of articlesl tracts on various facets of the changing labour landscape in Pakistan. He has also written and published "Trade Unionism and Industrial Relation" (1981) and further, in collaboration with Mr. Masood Mirza, wrote a treatise entitled "Contemporary Basic Labour Laws in Pakistan" (1984).
He made an interpretive study of origin and development of labour problem in emerging industrial society and wrote and published the same in his book entitled Labour Policies - Pakistan - Objectives, Structure and Dynamics (1987). He further wrote and published a treatise known as Standing Orders as Personnel Code of Conduct (1991), a new style of commentary on labour law.
Mr. Khan possesses a vast knowledge and understanding of and deep insight into all matters retating to personnel/labour administration and industrial relations.
