"The most prolific, and possibly the most gifted, translator of Urdu poetry into English these days is, no doubt, Baider Bakht of Toronto, a specialist in not Urdu literature as one might expect, but rather in bridge engineering, a subject in which he holds a University of London D.Sc.": Prof. Carlo Coppola, Oakland University, USA. With several awards, two patents, and seven books and about 200 papers, Baider Bakht is known internationally in the field of bridge engineering. His English translation of Urd Poetry done in collaboration with Canadian scholars and poets, and published in eleven books, have earned him an award from Columbia University, USA.
Dr. Marie-Anne Erki
For this collection, the Collaborator of Baidar Bakht is Marie-Anne Erki. With a Ph. D. in structural engineering from the University of Toronto, two books, many papers and awards, she is a well known Canadian professor of civil engineering.
She has a keen eye for both English and French literature, and plans to translate Aali in French.
