Mr. Qadeeruddin Ahmed, a scion of an old noble family of Delhi, was born on 20th October, 1909 in Hyderabad (Deccan), and educated in St. Stephen College Delhi; he obtained bachelor's degree in arts and law from Delhi University and started his practice of law in 1932 in Delhi. In 1945 Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah appointed him a civil lawyer to defend the Muslim Officers of the INA (Indian National Army), At the same time the Chancellor of Delhi University also appointed him a member of the university's Academic Council. He was elected President of Delhi Muslim League in 1945 and again in 1946. In this capacity he was an eyewitness of the struggle for Pakistan from a central vantage point.
Mr. Qadeeruddin Ahmed came to Pakistan towards the end of 1947 and started legal practice in Karachi. Since his subjects were banking and common law, he was engaged by the Government of Pakistan to draft the basic legal documents of the State Bank of Pakistan, and was also engaged by the National Bank of Pakistan, Pakistan Industrial Credit and Investment Corporation (PICIC) and some other financial institutions.
He continued legal practice in Pakistan upto 1957 when he was elevated to the bench and appointed Judge of West Pakistan High Court; later he became the senior Judge of the Karachi Bench.
In 1969 he was appointed Chief Justice of High Court of West Pakistan and an ad hoc Judge of Supreme Court of Pakistan till the dissolution of One Unit, when he was appointed Chief Justice of two provinces i.e. Sind and Baluchistan. He retired in 1970.
Mr. Justice (Retd.) Qadeeruddin has always taken keen interest in education and promoption of Islamic ideals. He has remained Persident of Arabic College and School Old Boys Asoociation, which founded primary and secondary schools, higher secondary schools and also an intermediate college, which still exists under the name of Delhi College. He has remained member of the Syndicate and the Selection Board of the Karachi University as well as Member of the Governing Body of the Institute of Business Administration. At present he is Governor of Sind and the Chancellor of the Karachi University.
