Dr. Sabeeha Hafeez, one of Pakistan's foremost experts on Pakistan Studies and Women Studies, attempts to answer these and related questions in a series of essays and studies drawing upon multiple methodologies and tools. Based on her own observaions and research she has done over the years, the author identifies, asseses and analyses the changes and complexities being expeienced by Pakistani Society due to various indigenous and exogenous forces.
Dr. Hafees does not believe in borrowing her concepts from other cultures or societies. Instead, she has a faith in evolving her own perspective based on the socio-cultural mosaic of the land she belongs to.
Very true to her roots, fully committed to her approach towards the problems of today's Pakistani Society, which is draw from scientific methods using and inductive approach. She firmly believes in developing the social scientific theory through a cumulative effort and has consequently attempted to formulate new cocnepts in her essays. But these concepts have been placed by her in the context of the existing body of knowledge and their meanings have been compared with those already existing in the social scientific literature, with the intention to contribute to the existing theory leading to a broader outlook.
Sabeeha Hafeez, obtained her Ph. D. in Sociology from the University of Minneasota, U.S.A. She has served as a visiting scholar at the Women Studies Programme and Policy Research Centre. The George Washington University, U.S.A. and previously taught at Karachi University, State University of New York and University of Minneasota. She is a member of scores of different national committees and commissions concerned with women in Development, Human Resource Development and Social Research. She has also served as a consultant to the Government and UN/International Agencies. In addition, she is a member of several selection Boards, Councils and Course committees of the National Universities.
Dr. Hafeez is the author of Metropolitan Women in Pakistan (1981), Poverty, Voluntary Organizations and Social Change: A study of an Urban Slum in Pakistan (1985) and Women in Industry 1989).
Presently, Dr. Hafeez is serving as the Director, Research Wing, Ministry of Women Development, Government of Pakistan.
